Lumpsum investments are one-time investments made by investors in a mutual fund scheme. Our mutual fund lumpsum calculator will help investors calculate their investment returns. The calculator shows the potential wealth gain during the duration of investment for the amount invested at the beginning of the period.

How Does Koshex Lumpsum Calculator Work?

We have two different investment approaches in our lumpsum calculator - I want to invest & I know my goal.

In the 'I want to invest' approach, we use the below formula:

FV = P (1 + i)^Y

Where,

FV is the amount you get a maturity
P is the amount you invested through lumpsum
R is the compounded rate of return
Y is the investment duration in years

Example:

Mr. Guna wants to invest ₹15 lakh in a mutual fund scheme that offers average returns at the rate of 12.0% per annum. The interest will compound every year for 5 years. Hence, according to the calculation, Guna will get a maturity amount of ₹26,43,513.

FV = 15,00,000 * (1+12.5%)^5
FV = ₹26,43,513

Ms. Isha has invested a lumpsum amount of ₹5 lakhs in a mutual fund scheme for 20 years and she expects a rate of return of 15% on the investment. When we use the formula, we can find the maturity amount to be ₹81,83,269. The wealth gained by Isha on her investment is ₹76,83,269.

FV= 5,00,000 * (1+15%)^20
FV = ₹81,83,269

Meanwhile, in the 'I know my goal' approach, we use the below formula:

P = F * V / ((1 + i)^Y)

Where,

FV is the amount you get at maturity
P is the amount you invest through lumpsum
i is the compounded rate of return
Y is the investment duration in years

Examples:

Mr. John wants to earn ₹5 lakhs in 5 years. He wants to invest in a mutual fund scheme, which gives an average return of ~12%. He wants to know how much he should be investing in lumpsum. According to our calculation, John would have to invest ₹2,83,713 cumulatively across a few mutual fund schemes via lumpsum option for 5 years and he would earn a wealth of ₹2,16,287.

P = 5,00,000 / ( (1+12%)^5)
P = ₹2,83,713

Ms. Keerthi wants to buy a luxury car for ₹25 lakhs in the next 7 years. She would like to know how much she would have to invest in a mutual fund scheme via lumpsum. The scheme will give her an average return of 15%. When we do the calculation, we can find out that Keerthi needs to do a lumpsum investment of ₹9,39,843. She will gain a wealth of ₹15,60,157 on her investment.

P = 25,00,000 / ((1+15%) ^ 7)
P = ₹9,39,843
