The SBI home loan EMI calculator is a user-friendly tool that helps you calculate your EMI for your home loan. The calculator gives you the EMI amount by making calculations using various details, such as your loan amount, interest rate, and repayment tenure. The calculator helps you plan your finances and make informed decisions about your home loan.

A home loan is a credit borrowed from a financial institution to buy a home. While taking the loan, you choose a repayment period to repay the principal amount and interest in EMIs. You can either choose a fixed interest rate or a floating interest rate.

EMI, which stands for Equated Monthly Installment, refers to a predetermined fixed payment that borrowers make to lenders on a specified date each month. This regular installment includes both the principal amount and the interest. This allows borrowers to repay their loans over a specific period gradually.

How Does The SBI Home Loan EMI Calculator Work?

The SBI home loan EMI calculator works based on the below formula:

Home Loan EMI = P * ( r * (1 + r)^n) / (( 1 + r)^n - 1)

Where,

P is the principal home loan amount
r is the rate of interest per month
n is the loan tenure in months

Example:

You are planning to take a home loan to buy a house of your dreams. You need a loan for ₹25 lakhs. The lender is offering you the loan at an interest rate of 9% per annum. You need to repay the loan in 20 years. By using the calculator formula, let's calculate your monthly EMI amount.

Home Loan EMI = 25,00,000 x 0.09/12 x (1 + 0.09/12)^240 / [(1 + 0.09/12)^240 - 1]
EMI = 25,00,000 x 0.0075 x (6.00915) / (5.00915)
EMI = 1,12,671.562 / 5.00915
EMI = ₹22,493

So, if you take a home loan for ₹25 lakhs at an interest rate of 9% for a tenure of 20 years, you would have to pay an EMI amount of around ₹22,500 every month.

How Should You Use The SBI Home Loan EMI Calculator?

Using the SBI home loan EMI calculator is simple.

  • Fill in the loan amount you plan to apply for.
  • Type in the interest rate offered by the lender.
  • Specify the number of years for which you plan to avail of the loan.

When the details are entered, the calculator will automatically show you the monthly EMI, the total loan amount, and the total interest amount.

Example:

Ms. Anu is planning to take a home loan for ₹40 lakhs. The interest rate of the loan is 11%. Anu has to repay the loan over 30 years. Here's how we calculate her EMI amount using the above formula.

EMI = 40,00,000 x 0.11/12 x (1 + 0.11/12)^360 / [(1 + 0.11/12)^360 - 1]
EMI = 40,00,000 x 0.009167 x 26.711273 / (25.711273)
EMI = 9,79,448.958 / 25.711273
EMI = ₹38,094 (approximately).

So, if Ms. Anu takes a home loan for ₹40 lakhs at an interest rate of 11% per annum, she will have to pay an EMI of ₹38,094 per month.
